Troika Pieces

  • This is the first ever Troika Bowl of Fruit that was produced, the second Troika bowl of fruit is also listed on this site. I’m fortunate enough to own two that were purchased several years apart. They are amongst some of the rarest pieces that Troika produced with only five being made. This piece is produced by Julian Greenwood Penny and is marked as such...TJ1 (Troika, Julian Greenwood Penny No1) in what appears to be green crayon. Both bowls of fruit, as can be seen from the photos, vary regarding quantity of fruit and glaze colour to the bowl. It is only my assumption but I’m presuming the other three that should/may still be in existence, all vary to some degree, whether that be in the colour of glaze, quantity of fruit, or both. Incidentally, when the seller purchased this from David Lay's auction house in Nov 1998 he was told by Julian Greenwood Penny himself that the other four Bowls of Fruit were sent overseas. When viewing Julian Greenwood Penny Sketchbook on this website you will see his designs for two of the Bowls of Fruit on page 124. Dimensions: 24cm x 24cm x 13cm
  • This is a fine example of troika calculator plaque decorated by Benny Sirota. The piece has vivid, fresh colours of dark brown, cream, white and blue with geometric style design.
  • This love plaque was a very, very expensive purchase for me but I've always consoled myself in the knowledge that it was personally owned and decorated by Benny Sirota who gifted it to his mother. An added highlight for me when I obtained this plaque was meeting Benny and his wife at their home in Wells Somerset. I'll always remember having a cup of tea with them and Benny telling me how amazed he was that Troika Pottery had again 'taken off' in the way that it had and along with that, the incredible prices that it was now achieving. I think it's fair to say that I didn't help regarding those prices when I purchased the Love Plaque......!
  • Lovely Troika River Thames plaque in beige and coffee coloured face and white borders. This piece is by Benny Sirota with Troika St. Ives and the artist's monogram in black ink at the rear.
  • This lovely black clay piece was owned by Harry Lyons who as most Troika collectors know, staged a Troika Pottery exhibition in May 1994 in London. I purchased it from someone who was friends with Harry and have an accompanying letter verifying how they acquired it etc. 12 cm x 12 cm x 4.5 cm
  • This early large troika terracotta plate / charger was thrown by Benny Sirota probably within the first year of the pottery opening. It has strong blue/turquoise & black glazes with a stylised leaf design which also adorn many of the various plates the pottery produced. When I purchased this from the seller he told me that he knew of only one other in ‘red clay’ and that one had been damaged. I cannot substantiate this but in all my years of collecting Troika pottery I have never seen another plate/charger produced in this larger size and in ‘terracotta’. It has very early 'scratched' Troika St Ives mark with separate impressed troika trident mark. Diameter 29.3 cm
  • One of the most iconic pieces in Troika Pottery and a favourite of mine......the Troika Mask! These were produced at the Newlyn pottery from the early 70's in varying designs but due to easily toppling over were not that popular with the buying public. Measurements: 25cm x 19 cm x 5.5cm
