Wonderful and rare Early Step Top Vase which is finished in a highly textured light brown ceramic. This has then been decorated on one face only by a simple and elegant dark brown painted circle and the relief features picked out in the same paint. The texture underneath is still visible as the paint has been thinned to allow this. The painted back stamp ‘Troika St Ives’ also carries the initials of Benny Sirota.

Acquired via an online auction, a welcome addition to my collection. I love the texture of this Early Step Top Vase which has an almost monolithic feel to it. Abstract designs to both sides in relief, and one side painted in a translucent brown which allows the texture to come through. This takes the form of a simple circle. Some of the relief features have been accentuated by the subtle application of brown paint. Some subtle incisions add to the mystic feel of this piece. It has a painted back stamp ‘Troika St Ives’ and the clear initials of one of the founders, Benny Sirota.
